Ich wandre durch Theresienstadt [2023 – 2024]

About This Project

Ich wand’re durch Theresienstadt

Duration: 24 months (January 2023 – December 2024)

As part of the project ” Ich wand’re durch Theresienstadt” (I walk through Terezín), school students and teachers have the opportunity of learning about the musical pieces of the composers Pavel Haas and Hans Krása as well as the texts of the lyricist Ilse Weber and to reflect on their historical and cultural value. The project builds a bridge between historical events and the lives of young people today while exploring the ways in which it was possible to be artistically active in this place at the time. By conveying the lives of the artists imprisoned in Theresienstadt and their works, the young people are sensitised to the fact that historical events are always interwoven with the present.

This discourse takes place within the framework of educational workshops at a total of five locations: Munich, Berlin, Hamburg, Berlin/Strausberg and Dresden, where the pupils also become creative themselves, design texts and videos on the topic as well as become part of a concluding performance. These take place as concerts at the end of the respective workshop week in each location. Like the preparatory workshops, they are accompanied by film and include performances by the OPUS 45 ensemble as well as contributions by the respective pupils and a detailed and moderated follow-up discussion. The grand final concert of the project will take place in November 2024 in Terezín/Theresienstadt in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut in Prague.

Project target groups:

The project is aimed at pupils and their teachers from grade nine onwards from all types of schools throughout Germany. Their families, friends and interested parties are invited to attend the final concerts.
